Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has welcomed the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to lift financial restrictions on Russian diplomatic missions.

«In general, we consider the US Administration’s decision to lift financial restrictions on Russian diplomatic missions, albeit belated, but a step in the right direction,» the diplomat explained in response to the media, the Russian representative’s office reported in a message posted on its Telegram channel.

«We hope that banks will correctly perceive the signal of the financial regulator and stop blocking transfers necessary to ensure the normal functioning of Russian foreign institutions,» Antonov said.

In addition, the ambassador explained that it took «a lot of work» to «make Washington aware of the significant damage that sanctions inflict» on its diplomats «all over the world.»

In this sense, he remarked that such a measure on the part of the US Treasury does not exempt it «from the responsibility for the imbalances in the world markets, caused by numerous illegitimate unilateral barriers», thus blaming the US for the world economic and food crisis.

«I mean price increases, disruption of supply chains, problems in the sphere of food security,» Antonov explained.

Hours earlier, the US Treasury issued a license allowing participation in operations necessary for the functioning of diplomatic missions, with the exception of those persons and institutions that are blocked.
