Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his intention to run in the 2024 presidential election on November 15, putting to rest any suggestions of a possible delay following the results of the mid-term elections.
The former president’s campaign advisor, Jason Miller, has stated this on the podcast of Trump’s former ideological advisor Steve Bannon, War Room, where he said that «it will be a very professional and very formal announcement», as reported by ‘The Hill’.
«President Trump is going to announce on Tuesday that he’s going to run for president. And it’s going to be a very professional and very elaborate announcement,» Miller said.
In recent days there had been speculation that Trump could delay the launch of his candidacy after the Republican Party has not reaped a «red wave» in the ‘midterm’ as many of its members predicted, and after the more extreme candidates have generally collected poor results in the polls.
However, the tycoon’s campaign advisor has stressed that the results of the midterm elections need not affect the presentation of his candidacy for the Republican primaries, although he has acknowledged that he has suggested to Trump to delay the announcement until after the runoff in the Senate race in the state of Georgia, the newspaper reported.
The former US president announced last week that next November 15 he intends to make «a big announcement» at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, which presumably will be his decision to run for the White House again.
The decision, however, has been questioned by some within the Republican Party, where Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has garnered support after his resounding victory over the Democratic candidate in last Tuesday’s elections.
The not so good results expected among the Republicans in the ‘midterm’ have made that within the organization some culprits are pointed out as Trump, although so far the former president continues to gather a great support from the bases.
