Approval of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s government has stood at 33 percent, according to the latest survey by Japanese public television NHK, the lowest since he was elected prime minister in October 2021.

This is the fourth consecutive month of falling approval of Kishida’s cabinet and the 33 percent figure is down 5 points from the previous month.

In contrast, the rate of disapproval of the Kishida government’s work has risen three points to 46 percent.

The survey attributed the drop to the lukewarm response to the controversy over the infiltration of the Unification Church sect into the Japanese government. Some 60 percent of respondents reject Kishida’s work in this area.

Thus, 55 percent of the population believes that a law to regulate donations to religious entities and to combat questionable practices such as the so-called «spiritual sales» should be passed in this same legislature.

The survey is based on more than 1,200 interviews conducted between Friday and Sunday, reports NHK television.
