A Peruvian court of first instance has sentenced Acción Popular congressman Raul Doroteo to four years of probation for the crimes of false declaration in an administrative proceeding and generic falsehood.
According to the sentence, Doroteo stated before the National Jury of Elections that he was a graduate in Systems and Computer Science at the San Ignacio de Loyola University (USIL). However, the educational institution stated that the congressman had not graduated, but was simply enrolled, as reported by RPP radio station.
Furthermore, the university claimed that Doroteo had never enrolled in any course, although he had been a student at the San Ignacio de Loyola Institute (ISIL).
The sentence against the parliamentarian also establishes rules of conduct and the payment of a civil reparation of 1,000 soles (252 euros), to be paid in two months, according to ‘La República’.
However, the congressman signed in 2013 a false Candidate Life Affidavit that was questioned by the university institution itself a year later, which brought the case to court.
