South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping met on Tuesday for the first time since they took office on the occasion of the G20 summit being held this week in Bali, Indonesia.

The two leaders were scheduled to address different issues related to the current geopolitical context, especially in view of the increased tension on the Korean peninsula after North Korea’s numerous ballistic tests, although for the moment no details of the meeting have been disclosed.

This is expected to be Yoon’s last bilateral meeting during his trip through South Asia, which has also led him to hold meetings with heads of state and government of other countries, according to information gathered by the Yonhap news agency.

The summit between the two comes a day after Xi met with U.S. President Joe Biden, who has questioned China’s real influence over North Korea.

The last time the leaders of China and South Korea held a meeting was in December 2019, when now former President Moon Jae In met Xi on the sidelines of a trilateral summit in Beijing that also included Japan.
