Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday expressed his wish for China and the United States to develop their «mutual understanding, reduce misperceptions and miscalculations,» and «work together» for healthy relations during his brief meeting with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Bangkok, Thailand.
The president, according to statements reported by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua, expects Harris to «play a positive role in this regard», after the «strategic and constructive» meeting held in Bali (Indonesia) on Monday with U.S. President Joe Biden.
Harris, for his part, highlighted as a «success» the meeting between the two presidents earlier this week.
The US vice president stressed that her country does not seek confrontation or conflict with China, and that the two sides should work together on global issues and keep lines of communication open.
