The president-elect of Brazil, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, has encouraged this Saturday from Portugal, where he is on an official visit, his fellow countrymen who have emigrated to return to their country «soon, soon» because they will receive them «with open arms».
«Sometimes I am sad when I see Brazilians living in other countries for not being able to find opportunities to study or work in their country,» said Lula, according to the Portuguese press.
Thus, he recalled «proudly» that in 2007 and 2008, when he was president, «many people who were outside Brazil returned (…) because they had job opportunities and because people felt good». «I hope you guys start coming back to Brais. Soon, soon the country will have its arms open to receive you», Lula emphasized.
Lula met this Saturday at the University Institute of Lisbon with 200 representatives of Brazilian immigrants in Portugal, whom he thanked for the «overwhelming majority» that supported him in the recent presidential elections from outside Brazil. This is the second and last day of Lula’s visit to Brazil.
