Colombian government authorities have signed the release of Violeta Arango Ramirez, alias ‘Violeta’, to participate in the peace negotiations that are taking place since Monday in Caracas, Venezuela, between a government delegation and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas.

‘Violeta’ has been released from the Jamundí prison, in Valle del Cauca, last Friday, where he had been held since June this year for his alleged involvement in an attack on a shopping center in Bogota in 2017, which left three dead and a dozen wounded, recalls RCN radio station.

The Ministry of Justice and the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec) have signed the letter of release, although they have specified that ‘Violeta’ must continue to face the judicial process that is open for the crimes of aggravated homicide, attempted homicide, terrorism, association to commit a crime and rebellion.

Like ‘Violeta’, Jairo Arregui, alias ‘Antonio’, has also been released from prison to participate in the ELN guerrilla’s peace processes with the Colombian government. As part of the agreement, the Attorney General’s Office will withdraw the arrest warrants against them so that they can travel to Venezuela.

At the moment it is known that there are approximately fifteen members of the ELN delegation, which will be led by Israel Ramírez Pineda, alias ‘Pablo Beltrán’, and Víctor Orlando Cubides, better known as ‘Aureliano Carbonell’.
