At least fifteen civilians have been killed and 10,000 others displaced following a series of attacks by the Burma Army on several communities in the Sagaing region in central Burma over the past week.

Residents have denounced a series of attacks and operations carried out by the Burmese military junta and have denounced «atrocities» perpetrated in at least a dozen communities, including Wetlet and Htangyi, according to reports in ‘The Irrawaddy’ newspaper.

Thus, they have warned that some localities have been burned, which has caused a large displacement of people. In Htangyi, about a thousand residents have been left homeless after the military set fire to about 300 houses.

The junta has also carried out raids on homes where, it said, members of the People’s Defense Forces resistance group, which is fighting the junta, were living.

The resistance groups opposing the military junta have repeatedly asked the international community to deliver weapons to enable them to fight the army and have compared their situation to that of the Ukrainian troops in the face of the Russian invasion.

The Government of National Unity of Burma, loyal to the former ‘de facto leader’, Aung San Suu Kyi, has indicated in a statement that it is «fighting for freedom» while the pro-democracy militias «give their lives» for it, while insisting on the importance of having more weapons to face the army.
