Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, on Tuesday denounced the «hypocrisy» of the United Nations Security Council regarding North Korea’s ballistic missile launches.

«The UN Security Council looks the other way and avoids facing the danger posed by the military exercises of the United States and South Korea in the area,» she said before stressing that Pyongyang has an «inviolable right to legitimate self-defense».

Thus, he spoke of the «double standards» of the members of the Security Council on this issue after it met to address precisely the launching on Friday of an intercontinental ballistic missile ‘Hwasong-17’ by North Korea.

In this regard, he accused the Council of acting in favor of the United States and warned that Pyongyang «will take the strongest measures» in case «someone hinders its own right to self-defense».

«The U.S. should bear in mind that no matter how much it wants to disarm North Korea, it can never deprive it of its right to self-defense,» he said, before asserting that «the more it puts the country on the ropes, the more the security crisis will increase.»

The numerous ballistic tests carried out by the North Korean authorities have increased tension in the region and set off all the alarms about possible provocations and nuclear tests.
