The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, has regretted this Thursday that the citizenship is really the most affected party by a strike of transporters for which, he says, «there is no basis» for it to continue.

Questioned about the truckers’ strike that has been affecting the country for several days, Boric has insisted that «it affects the life of Chileans and it is not against the government, it is against the citizens», according to Canal 13 channel.

«There is no basis for the strike to continue», insisted President Boric, who warned that if the truckers want to «insist on harming the country», they will meet with a firm response from the Executive, which will act «with all the firmness» that the law allows.

«There are families and people who have difficulties to get to their jobs, to hospitals, to the construction of houses; the daily life of many communities is disrupted and this is a serious fact», lamented Boric, who has instructed his ministers to defend the rights of «the most vulnerable sectors».

The Chilean government has already invoked on Wednesday the security law to deal with the strike of truck drivers who continue to disrupt the operation of roads, after rejecting the proposal of the Executive to end the strike.

The Confederación de Transportistas Fuerza del Norte began an indefinite strike on Monday in protest against high fuel prices, as well as insecurity on the roads, after three months ago the truckers asked the Finance Ministry to put an end to the price hikes.
