The Chaparrastique volcano, located in the city of San Miguel, in the eastern part of El Salvador, has emitted a strong explosion of gases after eleven consecutive days of activity, so the authorities have called for no activities within two kilometers of the crater.

Since November 15, 174 light explosions have been registered in the crater of the volcano, an activity described by experts as strombolian and is usual according to historical records, but poses a risk to the local population, according to ‘El Salvador’.

The Ministry of Environment informed that the last explosion was registered at 1:03 a.m. this Saturday, when it was possible to observe the expulsion of gases and ash, although the visibility of the area was reduced due to the cloudiness generated.

The authorities have asked the population to go out to the street wearing clothes that do not leave skin exposed, to close doors and windows of homes and use wet rags to prevent the entry of particles.

In addition, the use of masks has been indicated in order to avoid allergies or respiratory problems and it has been requested to avoid, as far as possible, outdoor activities and to protect the eyes.

Civil Protection officials are carrying out a preventive monitoring of the communities closest to the slopes of the volcano, such as Placitas, San Jorge and San Rafael Oriente.
