Italian authorities reported late Sunday that the death toll from a landslide on the island of Ischia has risen to seven, including a baby.

Among the deceased, in addition to the newborn baby, are a 28-year-old Bulgarian man, a 6-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy, a 32-year-old man and two women aged 30 and 31.

Search and rescue services continue to search for five people who are still missing, including three from the same family.

The number of displaced persons has also increased, around 230 people, who have been assigned alternative housing, according to the Prefect of Naples, Claudio Palomba, as reported by the AdnKronos agency.

In parallel to the rescue activity, the regional manager of the Field Fire Brigade, Emanuele Franculli, explained that they are collecting data to create a digital map to compare the affected area before and after the event.

«These data will allow the Municipality and Civil Protection to take appropriate measures also regarding the future accommodation of the occupants of these homes,» explained Franculli.

The Italian authorities have decreed a state of emergency for Ischia, as well as an allocation of two million euros to help the affected region, where more than 160 people have been displaced from their homes.
