Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold on Friday ordered a recount in the tight 3rd District election race between incumbent Republican Lauren Boebert and her Democratic challenger, Adam Frisch.

Griswold has announced this recount because the current gap between the two races is less than 0.5 percent of the total vote. Colorado law requires a recount in such cases.

Boebert won the Nov. 8 midterm election with 50.08 percent of the vote over Frisch, who won 49.92 percent of the electorate in Colorado’s 3rd District.

According to the website The Hill, this small difference of 0.16 percentage points translates into a mere 500 votes. The Republican would have obtained a total of 163,842 ballots, while the Democrat obtained 163,292.

«The results of the District 3 election race reinforce the fact that every vote matters,» said Griswold, who said he ordered this recount in order to «confirm the will of the voters.»

Thus, the 27 counties that make up Colorado’s third district will have to recount the ballots of both candidates in a process that will not extend beyond December 13.

Boebert, for his part, has already celebrated his victory and has assured that the recount of ballots will not change anything, since his lawyers will make sure that this is the case and that the recount is carried out correctly.
