The more centrist wing of the Republican Party calls for putting aside the different positions and supporting McCarthy

Members of the Republican Governance Group, a caucus of the most centrist within the Republican Party, have called on fellow caucus members to put aside differences and rally around Kevin McCarthy to secure Republican leadership in the House of Representatives.

«The American people handed us the gavel, but they did so with skepticism. If we do not immediately set aside posturing and focus on responsible governance, we will have failed to fulfill the great responsibility you have entrusted to us,» reads a letter released by the aforementioned caucus.

This call for unity comes after some Republicans of the most conservative wing announced that they will not support McCarthy in the vote to take the reins of the Presidency of the House of Representatives, replacing Democrat Nancy Pelosi and by virtue of the results of the recent mid-term elections.

McCarthy could only afford to have six party colleagues not support him, considering that the Democratic Party parliamentarians are expected to vote as a bloc for their candidate, New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries.

This situation of disagreement between the most conservative Republicans and the rest of the party is generating tensions that now the Republican Governance Group has asked to nip in the bud. «Governing is fundamentally a team sport,» they said.
