Brazil’s president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced on Friday the first five names of his next cabinet, confirming what had been speculated in recent weeks, that the former mayor of Sao Paulo Fernando Haddad will be Finance Minister and José Múcio Monteiro will head Defense.

«I have made the decision to present some of the ministers and next week I will present some more. On Sunday we are going to meet to see how many ministries and secretariats we are going to create», said Lula, who had initially planned to give only the first names this Monday 12, when he receives the credentials of his triumph from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

In addition to the already foreseen Haddad and Múcio, Lula has named the former governor of Bahia Rui Costa to head Casa Civil – a sort of Head of Government -; Flávio Dino for the Ministry of Justice; and Mauro Vieira for Foreign Affairs, a position he already held during Dilma Rousseff’s government.
