The Taliban fundamentalist movement announced Saturday the resumption of the activities of the Afghanistan Anti-Corruption Commission after its suspension due to lack of funds.

«If there was a need for an anti-corruption department, we already have it. Due to economic challenges, it was suspended. As far as anti-corruption is concerned, there is currently no corruption in the offices,» said Deputy Information Minister and senior Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.

Experts consulted by the Afghan channel Tolo News considered this measure as essential. «Countries with low levels of corruption always have some kind of such an institution,» Maiwnd Rohani, head of the Joint Independent Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, told Tolo News.

The Islamic Emirate has reiterated its commitment to eliminating corruption since its recapture of the country in August last year and they claim that such crimes are now at a low level, although independent verification is impossible.
