The cold storm that has hit much of the United Kingdom has left a snowy picture in the capital, London, which has suffered problems in some of the main means of transport, including air travel, with more than a hundred flights canceled between Sunday and Monday.

The country has experienced one of the coldest nights of the year. In Scotland, the thermometer has plummeted below 15 degrees below zero and in the Highlands area, schools have remained closed as a precaution to avoid travel.

A similar measure has also been adopted in Cornwall, England, although the main complications have been recorded in large cities such as London, where the subway has suffered delays and airports have experienced scenes of collapse. At Stansted airport, up to 15 centimeters of snow have accumulated, according to the BBC.

No new snowfalls are expected, but the police have acknowledged that the frost may complicate the circulation also on Tuesday, so the authorities have urged the population to exercise extreme caution both to move by road and to walk even on the sidewalks because of the risk of falls.

Police on Monday confirmed the death of three children aged eight, ten and eleven who fell into the waters of a frozen lake near Solihull, England on Sunday. A fourth child, aged six, remains in critical condition.
