Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has shared on Twitter the images of the Belgian Police showing the money seized in the Qatar bribery scheme to mock the European Union again, something he has already done on several occasions in recent days.

«This is what the rule of law looks like in Brussels,» wrote Orbán, whose government has been singled out on several occasions by both the European Commission and the European Parliament for its alleged anti-democratic drift.

Already on Monday, after the arrest of the vice-president of the European Parliament Eva Kaili, he said «good morning» to the Parliament with another message on Twitter in which former leaders appeared allegedly laughing that this institution is «seriously concerned about corruption in Hungary».

The European Parliament has taken a position against the Orbán government on several occasions. In September, it denounced in a report that Hungary is a «hybrid regime of autocracy» in which elections are held but democratic standards are not respected.

The EU-27 also agreed this week to freeze 6.3 billion euros in cohesion funds for Hungary due to the lack of progress in the fight against corruption and the strengthening of the rule of law required of the Orbán government, while the disbursement of 5.8 billion euros envisaged in the recovery plan is still up in the air.
