Russian authorities have deployed a group of riot police from St. Petersburg to the city of Mariupol, in the annexed Donetsk region, in order to curb a new wave of protests against the pro-Russian government.
As detailed on his Telegram channel by the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andryushchenko, the St. Petersburg riot units are already patrolling the streets of the town in case of «mass protests».
Mariupol was from the early stages of the war the scene of intense clashes between Russia and Ukraine. Eventually the city fell into the hands of Moscow, which is now trying to turn Mariupol into a kind of military logistics center, according to Ukrinform.
