U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday acknowledged Kenya’s leadership in addressing conflict resolution in the region, citing Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo as examples.

After meeting in Washington during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit with Kenyan President William Ruto, Blinken highlighted the strong commercial ties between the two countries, recognizing Kenya’s leadership in «addressing critical regional security challenges in northern Ethiopia, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Somalia,» the State Department said in a statement.

The Secretary of State also reiterated the importance the United States attaches to its «strategic partnership» with Kenya, expressing gratitude for the African country’s collaboration in the UN Security Council.

In this regard, Blinken pledged to continue working bilaterally on «shared global priorities».

The message comes after the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ethiopian government signed peace agreements in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, last November.
