The U.S. Embassy in Moldova received a suspicious package on Monday and requested the intervention of security forces to ensure the safety of its employees.
Embassy spokeswoman Carolina Istrati said that the package «was identified during a postal mail reception check» and noted that the relevant security protocols have been put in place.
«Following the procedure in security matters, the Embassy has asked the Police to come forward after identifying a suspicious package during a routine check. Authorities are already in the area to manage the situation. As always, the U.S. Embassy appreciates the support and professionalism of Moldovan law enforcement,» he said, according to information from the daily ‘Timpul’.
According to these procedures, the package is already in the hands of the security forces, who have cordoned off the area. They have also issued a so-called «code red».
The detection of this package is part of a series of suspicious letters and parcels sent to a number of Ukrainian diplomatic legations in at least fifteen European Union countries in the framework of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
