Authorities in the Philippines reported Wednesday that 16,000 people have been evacuated due to torrential rains in the Bicol region of southeastern Luzon Island.

In total, more than 3,600 families have been affected and are now in evacuation centers set up by the government due to the danger posed by the rains and floods, according to information from the newspaper ‘Inquirer’.

Authorities have indicated that hundreds of incidents have been recorded in more than thirty cities, as well as landslides that have affected twelve localities. «Most of the 64 affected roads, bridges and landfills were impassable due to flooding,» they said.

Experts have warned that the rainfall will become heavier over the next 12 hours, although no fatalities have been reported so far.
