The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, has expressed her desire to travel to Ukraine and meet with President Volodimir Zelenski at the latest in the first months of the new year following an invitation from the Ukrainian president himself.
«I would like to make the trip in the first months of next year,» Meloni has expressed before leaving this Thursday for Iraq, adding that the diplomatic offices of the two countries are «in contact» to finalize the details, ADKronos news agency has reported.
These statements come after the Ukrainian president himself invited Meloni to visit Ukraine during a telephone conversation last October in which the leader of Brothers of Italy renewed her support for Kiev after taking office as Italian prime minister.
Meloni also took the opportunity this Thursday to congratulate the Ukrainian people on Christmas, the festival of light, at a time when thousands of people in Ukraine are enduring low temperatures and have no electricity supply.
«Peace in Europe and freedom are not a given. It is enough to move a little away from here to see it,» he said, adding that «Italy has clearly and unhesitatingly sided with Ukraine,» Rai News reported.
