Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo have reported this Thursday the location of a new grandchild disappeared during the dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983), the 131st since the organization began its activity in April 1977.
The organization has released a statement on its website in which «with happiness» has announced a «new identity restitution», for which it has summoned the media to a press conference to release more information.
«As if the end of the year had been bent on fulfilling wishes, after almost three years, we return to celebrate the finding of a new grandchild, the 131st,» said the organization, which, however, is not satisfied and recalled that even today there are still almost 300 people with «false identity».
The last time the organization made known the identity of a disappeared person was in June 2019, when they managed to locate Javier Matías Darroux Mijalchuk — grandson number 130 –, son of people who disappeared in December 1977 under the dictatorial rule of Jorge Rafael Videla.
ALBERTO FERNÁNDEZ WELCOMES NEWS Argentina’s president, Alberto Fernández, on Thursday welcomed the fact that the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo have recovered another grandchild, highlighting the good news to close 2022.
«It is an infinite joy to close the year in this way. As they say, we hope that more and more men and women can recover their identity like the 131 who have already done so,» said the Argentine president in a message on the social network Twitter.
«Thank you forever, Grandmothers,» concluded Fernández, sharing a photo of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo during the celebration for the location of «a new grandchild.»
Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo is a Human Rights organization founded in 1977 that aims to locate and return to their rightful families all children who disappeared during the last military dictatorship.
