The South African judiciary has released on bail three men charged with assault and battery after they assaulted several black minors who were trying to swim in a «whites-only» pool at a resort in Mangaung, in South Africa’s Free State province.
The three suspects, all white men between the ages of 33 and 48, face charges of common assault and criminal insult – an offense under South African law that punishes attacks on a person’s dignity.
The last of the defendants to be arraigned in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court – the capital of the Free State and the country’s judicial system – was Kobus Klaasen, who also faces a charge of attempted murder.
The South African courts have released Klaasen on a bail of 20,000 rand — just over 1,100 euros. The other two defendants, Johan Nel, 33, and Jan Stephanus van der Westhuizen, 47, already appeared on Wednesday.
Social networks have echoed in recent hours of a racist attack in the pool of the aforementioned resort and in which three men are seen assaulting several black children and trying to prevent them from swimming.
The document shows how an adult, possibly Klaasen, grabs one of the minors by the neck and then throws another of them into the pool, who also submerges his head under the water, as reported by the South African news portal News24.
Although the video has spread massively on social networks in the last hours, the attack would have occurred last weekend, during Christmas Day.
