Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday criticized Democrats after the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee released his tax data during his tenure as head of the administration.
«The Democrats should never have done it. The Supreme Court should never have approved it and it’s going to lead to horrible things for so many people. The great divide in America will now be so much worse,» he stressed in a message on Truth Social, as reported by The Hill.
«The tax returns show once again how proudly successful I have been and how I have been able to use depreciation and other tax deductions as an incentive to create thousands of jobs and magnificent structures and businesses,» he has added.
The thousands of pages of documents from the former president’s personal and business tax returns, covering tax years 2015-2020, have been obtained by the committee after a lengthy court battle with Trump’s legal team, as reported by CNN.
According to the documents released so far, Trump paid €1 million in federal income taxes in 2018 and 2019, in stark contrast to the €700 he paid in 2017. In 2020 he paid no taxes, according to a report by the Joint Committee on Taxation.
The pages confirm information advanced by ‘The New York Times’ in 2020 that Trump had a bank account in China — as well as in other foreign countries, such as the United Kingdom or Ireland — linked to his company Trump International Hotels Management.
Being a huge amount of documents, it will take time to break down all the information, but no exceptional revelations are anticipated, although they could provide additional information on key areas of interest regarding Trump’s business and professional associations.
