The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has asked the Government of Bolivia for information on the detention of the governor of Santa Cruz and opposition leader Luis Fernando Camacho and has requested a response within ten days.
Opposition party senator Creemos Centa Rek has informed of the IACHR’s missive. «We communicate that we have received a note from the IACHR in response to our request for a precautionary (measure) for the release and for the guarantees of the governor Luis Fernando Camacho, kidnapped by the government of (Luis) Arce Catacora in an unjustified and violent manner», explained Rek in declarations collected by Brújula Digital.
«In this note they warn us that they have asked the Government for information on this illicit, on this situation, on this violence committed in Bolivia», he added.
Rek refers to Article 25 (5) of the Rules of Procedure of the IACHR by which the body requests «the information it deems appropriate on the situation referred to by the petitioner».
For Rek «it is not only a national scandal, but also an international scandal the way in which the Government has proceeded and, in addition, the irregular way, going over all the guarantees and the IACHR is moving forward, although very slowly, because here there are flagrant violations».
Camacho was arrested as part of the investigation of the Golpe de Estado I case, accused of participating in the 2019 political crisis that led to the departure of Evo Morales from the Presidency of the country after the loss of the support of the Police and the Army and amid accusations of fraud in the last elections.
The opponent is in Chonchocoro prison, where this Saturday he received for the first time the visit of his children José Luis, María Fernanda and Luis Fernando.
