
The South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu was the subject of a provisional tsunami warning on Sunday, now withdrawn, after a preliminary magnitude 7.0 earthquake was reported off its coast, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has announced.
According to preliminary information from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was recorded about 23 kilometers northwest of Port Olry with a hypocenter at a depth of 27.7 kilometers.
Two other aftershocks of magnitude 4.8 and 4.0 were recorded after the earthquake, according to a later USGS assessment.
No casualties or material damage have been reported so far.
