The Lima Association of Journalists has urged Peruvian authorities to stop the violence in the country that has led to the deaths of more than forty civilians and members of the country’s National Police in recent months.
In a statement reported by the Andina news agency, it expressed its solidarity with the families of Peruvians who died as a result of clashes between security forces and demonstrators in some regions of Peru.
«We Peruvians have shown that, when we unite, nothing can prevent us from moving forward. But there must be a commitment and willingness to reach agreements through sincere dialogue and that radical positions that only generate anxiety are put aside,» said the Lima Journalists’ Association in the document.
They have also recognized the effort of some media in making constant calls for peace and dialogue, and for this reason they have urged that this current of opinion be transferred from the press to the whole country.
«We are professionals who must urge a responsible and truthful handling of information», the organism has indicated.
THE GOVERNMENT IS WORKING ON ESTABLISHING A TABLE OF DIALOGUE The Peruvian Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, pointed out that the Government is working on «an intense platform of dialogue» as well as on the elaboration of regional agendas, all with the aim of attending to the demands of the interior of the country, putting an end to the confrontations that have been arising in the last days, reactivating the economy and taking Peru on the path of development.
«We have established a platform of intense and inter-institutional dialogue and a collective and participative construction of regional agendas», said the Andean premier, as reported by the aforementioned agency.
This dialogue would include civil society organizations, the Catholic Church and regional governors, with whom contact has been established with the purpose of advancing in a series of works and unblocking projects, especially in the regions where conflicts are taking place.
«The development of the country and the large-scale projects, as well as the medium and small ones, which we have already identified in Puno, in Cuzco, in these populations in conflict at the moment, have to be executed. Otherwise, we will delay the development of these localities and affect the most vulnerable», said Otárola.
Likewise, he detailed that communication has been established with the Catholic Church in Puno and Cuzco.
He also specified that the obligation of the Executive is to respect Human Rights and to accompany those who have suffered the loss of a loved one during the clashes, according to Andina.
«Trust in democracy, in the rule of law, in Human Rights, have confidence in your Police and Armed Forces. We are clear about our mandate. The President of the Republic (Dina Boluarte) is firmly in charge of the country», concluded the Peruvian Prime Minister.
