The head of the Mexico City government, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced Thursday that security forces have managed to arrest one of the main suspects in the attack perpetrated last December against Mexican journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva.
«A few minutes ago, members of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City and the Prosecutor’s Office have confirmed the arrest in Michoacán of the person allegedly responsible for shooting Ciro López,» Sheinbaum said on her Twitter account.
She explained that this is the person who «was the co-pilot on the motorcycle on the day of the attack» and reiterated the commitment of the authorities to «put an end to impunity».
In mid-December, Gómez was the victim of an armed attack in Mexico City when, during the night, several men on a motorcycle shot at the vehicle in which the journalist was traveling home.
