Brazil’s Supreme Court reported Friday that the replica of the 1988 Constitution that was stolen during Sunday’s assault by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro on the institutions’ headquarters has been recovered.
The Supreme has told that the Minister of Justice of Brazil, Flávio Dino, has notified that the replica has been found and that this Friday it will be delivered by hand to the president of the court, the magistrate Rosa Weber.
«Flávio Dino will deliver this Friday the replica to the president of the Supreme Court, Judge Rosa Weber,» the court said in a statement, which also clarified that the original of the Constitution «was not the target of the vandals’ actions» since it was kept in the institution’s museum.
During the attack on the Three Powers Square, firearms were also stolen from the room of the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Planalto Palace, where the office of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva did not suffer any significant damage as it is the room with the highest security.
However, the trail of destruction left in their wake by Bolsonaro’s acolytes included damage to important works of Brazilian historical heritage, such as the mural Mulatas by Di Cavalcanti, or Araguaia by the artist Marianne Peretti.
