The vast majority of Ecuadorians would vote ‘Yes’ to the eight questions to be asked in the referendum organized by the Government of Guillermo Lasso for next February, despite the dissatisfaction of citizens with respect to the national Executive.
The proposed measures, which will be consulted separately, have a positive voting intention that ranges between 49.4 and 82.3 percent, while between 11.1 and 27.1 percent are willing to reject them, according to the pollster Clima Social after asking almost 4,000 people distributed throughout the Ecuadorian territory.
The proposal that gathers more support is the reduction of the number of assembly members in the Chamber of Deputies, which gathers 82.3 percent of support against only 11.1 percent of people who are against it.
Other measures that garnered the most support are reducing the number of political organizations and providing greater water protection in the country, both with 79.9 percent.
With a slightly lower percentage (77.8 percent), the vast majority of Ecuadorians support environmental compensation for those who benefit from natural resources.
The possibility of granting extradition for organized crime offenders (69.3 percent), greater autonomy for the Attorney General’s Office (61.9 percent) also garnered majority support.
The two remaining measures, which refer to the mode of appointment of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control, as well as a reform of its competencies, are the least supported (54.8 and 49.4 percent, respectively).
