The Mexican justice system has sentenced Jesús Emmanuel ‘El Jordan’ to almost 800 years in prison for the intentional homicide of 25 people and the attempted murder of five others on June 1, 2020 while they were in a rehabilitation center in Irapuato, in the state of Guanajuato.
The State Attorney General’s Office has reported the 797-year prison sentence for ‘El Jordan’, who along with two other men, all on behalf of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, violently entered the rehabilitation center in search of an individual. When they did not find him, they fired assault weapons at the inmates and guards, causing the death of 27 of them.
The criminal judge has decreed a sentence of 29 years for each of the homicides he committed, in addition to 14 years for each of the attempted homicides, for a total of 797 years.
The sentence imposed against Jesus Emmanuel, 26, is the highest in the history of criminal acts in the state of Guanajuato. It is also the most fatal atrocity on record in the state, reported ‘El Universal’.
However, Guanajuato’s Penal Code establishes that the maximum penalty is 60 years in prison, which is the maximum that the murderer would have to serve.
However, so far it is not known what actions the Mexican justice system has taken against the two accomplices of ‘El Jordan’.
The survivors of the attack testified to the authorities that the gunmen who burst into the center heavily armed had assured that they were acting under orders from José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, known as ‘El Marro’, leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, who disassociated himself from the attack.
Initial investigations indicated that the assailants’ objective was to eliminate a group of inmates belonging to the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation, which is in conflict with the criminal gang led by ‘El Marro’.
