Chinese authorities on Friday raised to 28 the death toll following a snow avalanche that occurred earlier this week in the town of Nyingchi, in the Tibet Autonomous Region, located in western China.
The last balance of the emergency services put the death toll at 13. Now, after adding another 15 bodies to the total death toll, the competent authorities have terminated the search and rescue work, according to ‘China Daily’.
The avalanche occurred on Tuesday on a stretch of road at the exit of a tunnel in Mainling County. China’s Ministry of Emergency Management sent several task forces with more than 1,000 rescuers and 30 vehicles to the scene.
After the news was released, the country’s authorities urged to strengthen the monitoring of the situation and to move the affected people to a safe place to prevent possible disasters, as reported earlier this week by the newspaper ‘Global Times’.
