The Canadian Armed Forces have pointed out that Russian troops are «ill-equipped and inadequately trained», so they believe that Moscow will fail in its efforts to take control of the Ukrainian region of Zaporiyia.
«Russia’s ill-equipped and inadequately trained troops will likely be unable to succeed in their offensive on the Zaporiyia front line in the coming months,» the Canadian Army has stressed in a post on Twitter.
Ottawa has echoed that «Russian-installed officials in the partially occupied Zaporiyia region claim that Russian forces will likely be ready to launch an offensive in the spring to capture the remaining part of the region.»
However, according to Canadian Intelligence Services reports, Russia has been installing strategic defensive posts for months, showing «some concern» regarding a possible Ukrainian reconquest.
They have also pointed out that Moscow has invested considerable resources to take full control of the Donetsk region in the Donbas, suffering «very high losses» and «minor territorial gains» in this operation.
