The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has charged on Thursday against the violent demonstrators in the ‘Toma de Lima’, assuring that «the full weight of the law» will fall on them, and reiterating her refusal to resign.
Specifically, the president warned that the Government «will act within the framework of the Constitution» against those who have caused acts of violence, assuring that the events occurred in some points of Lima are not a peaceful march.
«You want to break the rule of law, you want to generate chaos and disorder. And within that chaos and disorder, you want to take the power of the nation», said Boluarte in a televised message.
Thus, the president denounced that the attempt to take over three airports in the country, «in a concatenated manner, at the same time», was a «premeditated» act that required organization, according to a report made by the Peruvian government.
«This is not a mere coincidence. They wanted to take over three airports in the interior of the country (…) The full force of the law will fall on those people who are committing these criminal acts», he said.
He has also wondered about who is financing the people who are attending the protests, arguing that the protesters are not going to their respective jobs and bringing money to their homes.
Boluarte has reiterated to the protesters the importance of working on «the look that the country needs», listing certain problems such as water shortage in the country, health, education or agriculture.
«I will not tire of calling them to a good dialogue, to tell them to work on the needs that Peru needs», said the president about the demonstrators who have come from the regions to the capital.
However, the Peruvian head of state assured that «the situation is under control» and that «the Government is firm and her Cabinet is more united than ever».
The message of the president took place on the day of the ‘Toma de Lima’, a massive protest in the country’s capital, attended by thousands of people to demand the dismissal of Dina Boluarte’s government.
