Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Monday that Europe is ‘de facto’ at war and that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has hurt Belgrade, as it is on the radar of all countries because they have not imposed sanctions against Russia.
«Geopolitical circumstances have changed. There is a lot of nervousness. Europe is de facto at war. There is no tolerance in any sense (…). The Western Balkans are their backyard,» he said, as reported by the daily ‘Politika’.
Vucic has thus assured that the war in Ukraine has brought «great misfortunes» to Serbia «in every sense», since the West «has its own agenda, which is the defeat of Russia, and will clean up everything that gets in the way of that».
«There is an implicit obligation not to oppose Kosovo’s entry into the UN, not formally but ‘de facto,’ a new negotiating framework for Serbia. There is no progress for us in Europe if we do not cooperate,» he clarified, as reported by RTS.
In this regard, Vucic has stated that Serbia must accept the Franco-German plan. «If it does not accept it, it will face disruption of the process of European integration, withdrawal of investments and other comprehensive measures in the economic and political sense that will cause great damage,» he has alleged.
«We want to show a constructive approach in each place (of negotiations). Both sides have to make concessions, we understand that, but the problem is when you see that one side can do whatever they want and be rewarded for it,» he has argued.
