The government claims that a report by the resigned anti-corruption secretary «does not attribute guilt» to anyone.

The Secretary of Public Administration of Ecuador, Ivan Correa, has assured on Tuesday that a report released and written by the resigned Luis Verdesoto, who was in charge of the Anti-Corruption Secretariat and resigned on Monday, does not attribute «criminal indications, complicity or guilt to anyone».

«The report does not establish concrete facts. It limits itself to outlining generic speculations, wrongly called ‘hypotheses’. Nor does it define public policies to prevent or confront corruption,» Correa said in a written and recorded statement.

Thus, they have recalled the words of Verdesoto himself, who indicated in his resignation letter – presented on Monday to the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso – that «the report can be used maliciously and prevent the Government from being able to defend itself adequately against its detractors».

Verdesoto resigned on Monday from his position at the Anti-Corruption Secretariat «due to the lack of concrete results» after publishing a report on possible acts of corruption in the Empresa Coordinadora de Empresas Públicas (EMCO), as well as in the Corporación Nacional de Electricidad (CNEL) and in the Flota Petrolera Ecuatoriana (Flopec), as reported by ‘El Universo’.

Verdesoto’s management, who had been in office for eight months, was criticized by several sectors after the uncovering of a scandal of an alleged corruption network in public companies that involved high-level officials, as well as private citizens.
