The Government of Peru has extended this Tuesday for ten days the curfew imposed in the department of Puno, forcing all people to remain in their homes from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. until next February 4.

The measure is part of the state of emergency ordered by the Executive of Dina Boluarte to alleviate the escalation of social conflicts in Puno, where there have been demonstrations and strong riots, as well as dozens of deaths, as reported by the radio station RPP.

During the immobilization, only the strictly necessary personnel will be exempted and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) will maintain control of the internal order with the support of the Peruvian Armed Forces.

Currently, a state of emergency has been declared in the departments of Cuzco, Lima, Callao, Amazonas, La Libertad and Tacna, as well as in Puno, where the rights of assembly, inviolability of the home, freedom of transit, personal freedom and security have been suspended, according to a decree published in El Peruano, the official government gazette.

The state of national emergency has been announced in the midst of the political crisis facing the country after former President Pedro Castillo was arrested after announcing last December 7 the dissolution of Congress and the establishment of a government of exception, which led to the beginning of a social outbreak.

Since the beginning of the protests, more than 60 people have lost their lives, most of them as a result of clashes with state security forces.
