The governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria, has denounced that in several localities of the Colombian department illegal armed groups have not only violated the bilateral cease-fire agreed with the central government, but also carry out proselytizing and recruitment campaigns in schools.
Gaviria, who has omitted for the moment the names of the centers to protect minors, their families and teachers, has reported that they would be located in rural areas of municipalities such as Yarumal, San Pedro de los Milagros and Campamento.
In total, there would be three educational centers in which these groups — and he cites the Gulf Clan, the 36th Front of the FARC dissidence and the National Liberation Army — would have groped around 500 students, to whom they had given school materials in exchange for thanks that would then be recorded on video and broadcast through the channels of these armed organizations.
These videos and other evidence they have collected will be sent to the Ministries of Defense, Interior and Education, as well as to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace, and even to the permanent delegation of the United Nations in Colombia, said Governor Gaviria.
The information comes from the last security council held by the authorities of the region, after also detecting that the aforementioned armed groups operating in the area would have violated the bilateral ceasefire agreed at the end of December 2022 with the Government of Gustavo Petro.
In this sense, Gaviria has assured that the armed groups are taking advantage of the peace and negotiation processes to occupy new spaces. However, as the central government maintains, operations against them have not ceased despite the truce.
«These groups are flagrantly taking advantage of the ceasefire to occupy more spaces and to flaunt their presence, to the detriment of the population, of the communities, both in the urban centers of these rural populations, as well as in the educational institutions that are protected by International Humanitarian Law», he denounced, reports RCN.
