Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro has praised the achievements made during his administration and warned about the danger posed by leftist leaders in Latin America, all during a crowded speech in Miami, United States.
The Brazilian leader continues his public appearances in the United States and has offered this Friday a speech at the event ‘Power of the People’, led by Turning Point Usa, a non-profit organization aimed at the youth of the conservative wing of the North American country.
The event took place at the Trump National Doral Miami, property of former President Donald Trump, where Bolsonaro took the opportunity to boast about the successes achieved during his administration, such as low inflation or the increase of citizens’ freedoms.
«Brazil was about to face a moral crisis», said the president about the situation the country was in when he took office, according to Bloomberg.
In addition, the Brazilian leader has lashed out against leftist governments in Latin America and emphasizes how they endanger what has been achieved so far: «We know that the left seeks equality, but they want equality in poverty», said Bolsonaro, as quoted by the aforementioned agency.
In addition, regarding his defeat in the last elections, the former president said: «I don’t know why I lost», before an audience of at least 400 supporters.
Jair Bolsonaro has been in the United States since the end of December 2022, thus avoiding the takeover of the current president of Brazil, while investigations into his responsibility in the assault on the government buildings on January 8 continue.
This is not the first public appearance of the former president, as the right-wing leader was already seen earlier this week at another event in Florida organized by the group Yes Brazil USA, which was also attended by supporters of the former president.
At this event, Bolsonaro affirmed his intention to remain active in the country’s politics and said that President Lula da Silva’s government «will not last long».
«We cannot abandon politics. Politics is part of our lives. I am 67 years old and I intend to remain active in Brazilian politics,» he remarked during his speech, as reported by ‘Folha de S.Paulo’.
