Emergency services on Thursday rescued four people, including a girl, alive from the rubble of a residential building that collapsed in southern Turkey’s Hatay province following powerful earthquakes that shook the area on Monday.
The rescues, carried out in the Antioch district, have taken place some 72 hours after the first tremors. The survivors have been identified as a five-year-old girl and her mother, as well as a father and his daughter, according to official sources consulted by Anatolia news agency.
More than 14,000 people have died in Turkey as a result of the powerful earthquakes, although if the number of victims in Syria is added, the official death toll exceeds 17,500 on Thursday, according to the latest figures published by the authorities of both countries and the Syrian Civil Defense, known as the ‘white helmets’.
