The Permanent Commission of the Peruvian Parliament has approved this Friday the final report against former president Pedro Castillo to accuse him of the crime of criminal organization together with former ministers Juan Silva and Geiner Alvarado.

With 19 votes in favor, nine against and one abstention, the Permanent Commission has given the ‘green light’ to accuse the former president not only of the crime of criminal organization, but also of influence peddling and collusion, according to RPP radio station.

Now the case will be debated and voted in the plenary of the Parliament, from where, if it receives the necessary support, it will pass to the Attorney General of the Nation, Patricia Benavides, who will be the one to continue with the investigations on several cases of corruption that Castillo is accused of.

In the case of former Minister Silva, the vote has been almost unanimous and 28 members of the Permanent Commission have approved to accuse him of the alleged crimes of criminal organization and collusion during his mandate as head of the Transport and Communication portfolio.

Likewise, the body has voted overwhelmingly in favor of charging Alvarado for the alleged crime of criminal organization when he served as Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation during Castillo’s administration.

Former President Castillo, who was arrested after attempting to dissolve the Parliament and set up a government of exception in a maneuver aimed at arrogating more power to himself, has several open investigations for alleged corruption cases.
