
At least two people were killed Wednesday when a military helicopter crashed in Madison County in the U.S. state of Alabama.
«We are deeply saddened by the loss of two members of the Tennessee National Guard, and our prayers are with their families during this heartbreaking tragedy,» said a law enforcement spokesman, who added that there were no other injuries and that authorities are investigating the incident.
Preliminary reports indicated that six people were killed, but that number was later revised to confirm the deaths of only two officers, according to Alabama News.
The aircraft, which caught fire after impact, belonged to the Tennessee National Guard and was on a routine training mission, a spokesman confirmed to CBS News.
A U.S. Department of Defense official said that the crashed aircraft was a Black Hawk helicopter, while the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that it was a military helicopter, the channel reported.
The authorities were notified of the incident at 15.00 local time. Subsequently, they have detailed that none of the crew members survived.
