FRANKFURT (DPA/EP) German security forces have arrested at the border with Austria a citizen of Moroccan origin who was allegedly preparing a jihadist attack in the city of Frankfurt.
The 18-year-old suspect, who had spent much of his life in Germany, had intended to go to Iraq to join the ranks of the Islamic State, according to a joint statement by the police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators found that he had already obtained instructions for making explosive devices and was looking to get his hands on an automatic weapon, with the aim of murdering as many people as possible. Islamic State flags were also seized from his home.
Authorities had been tracking him since the summer of 2022, but he was only arrested on Wednesday, shortly before reaching the border in the Passau area.
