Moldovan police announced Sunday that at least 25 people have been questioned and at least seven of them have been detained for their involvement in an alleged group of »destabilizers» in the pay of the Russian government, with the purpose of inciting violence during demonstrations organized by pro-Russian oligarch Ilhan Shor against the country’s government.

These protests are meeting a new episode this Sunday, when hundreds of people have gathered once again in the capital, Chisinau, while the security forces have confirmed at least four bomb warnings, under investigation, which they consider as part of the mentioned destabilization acts.

In fact, one of these alerts was declared around midday at Chisinau International Airport, according to a police statement reported by the Moldovan portal Publika.

Airport staff and travelers were evacuated from the building and the passenger check-in procedure has been temporarily suspended while the Specialized Services of the Ministry of the Interior investigate the scene.

The Border Police confirmed the receipt of a bomb warning at 12.50 p.m., which prompted the mobilization of security forces. All four bomb threats on Sunday were eventually found to be false and were made by the same person under the pseudonym Marin Sandu.

Regarding the detainees, and as reported by the director of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernautean, this group intended to expand throughout the country through the creation of a dozen additional cells in the pay of Shor’s party, the Socio-Political Republican Equality Movement.

Each of those arrested was paid almost 10,000 euros to carry out this mission, according to Cernautean in a press conference reported by the Moldovan news portal Jurnal. When organizing these groups, the ringleaders allegedly contacted a Russian citizen who entered Moldova on a false passport.

With regard to Sunday’s demonstrations orchestrated by Shor – now on the run – the Moldovan police confirmed the arrest of at least 54 participants, including 21 minors, for carrying «forbidden objects» during the protest. Among those arrested is one of the organizers of the rally, Valeriu Klimenko.
