Two people have died, eight have been hospitalized and nine are still missing after an explosion at a chocolate factory in West Reading, Pennsylvania (USA) on Friday night.
Authorities in the city have confirmed that at 14.57 local time a large explosion took place at the R.M Palme Company chocolate factory, resulting in the destruction of the building and a fire in the rubble, NBC Philadelphia reports.
The reason for the deflagration, which has affected adjacent buildings but, according to emergency services, does not pose a danger to neighbors living near this commercial area, is still unknown.
The mayor of the town, Samantha Kaag, confirmed that the building has been completely destroyed, and that the explosion has moved its foundations more than one meter. She also warned that the rescue work will continue through the night and probably into the weekend.
