Norwegian authorities on Friday imposed sanctions against some 30 individuals and seven organizations linked to Russia as part of a new package of measures that puts the country on par with the European Union in terms of sanctions on Moscow in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.

«Another 30 individuals and seven entities have been added to the list of natural and legal persons, as well as entities and organizations, subject to restrictive measures for participating in referendums in the occupied regions of Ukraine,» the government said in a statement.

The authorities have clarified that the list now includes 1,260 individuals and 115 entities linked to Russia. Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt said that these sanctions «are necessary in the face of the brutal war and the illegal annexation of Ukrainian regions».

In this sense, she conveyed Norway’s support to the European Union in relation to these sanctions with the aim of «maintaining pressure on the Russian government and its supporters», as reported by the newspaper ‘E24’.

Huitfeldt, who has indicated that the sanctions come into force this Friday, has asserted that «it is increasingly understandable the imposition of these measures, which are a clear sign of the European reaction to Russia’s actions in Ukraine». «The opportunities to conduct business transactions with Russia have now been severely limited and pose a risk,» he defended.
