Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has awarded the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, with the honorary title of ‘Savior City’ for its cooperation with the Ukrainian population within the framework of the war, launched in February by Russia.
The President signed a decree on Friday, which was published by the Presidency of the country, recognizing the «humanism, mercy and solidarity» shown by Prague to the Ukrainian people.
Thus, Zelenski has valued «the comprehensive assistance» of the Czech capital to «the citizens of Ukraine who were forced to leave the homeland as a result of Russia’s armed aggression (…) as well as the strong support to Ukraine in the defense of its independence and sovereignty».
This honorary title was promoted by the Ukrainian head of state last May to recognize the collaboration of foreign cities within the framework of the war.
The first city to be honored as a ‘Savior City’ was Rzeszów, in southwestern Poland and just 70 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
